    ordered 3 of these cheap pcb's, all workt perfect after a few hours of soldering. Now the main test: the transformer is a 24v ac 90 watt the load is a 10R / 50 watt resistor, I put voltage to 20Volt that's 2amps, all 3 blew up after some while...3x the 2sd1047 broke down, after replacing the 1047 on 1 of the pcb's and again testing 2 of the tl081 blew up... After checking the schematic I see that the tl081 gets almost 30 volt and -5 at power pins, that is nearby max of ic...So I changed this, now the tl081 gets +5 and -5 at power pins... next change put 2 1047 in parralel with an extra resistor 0.33R in the emitter line....all works perfect now, but watch out, if you going to use 3 amps out of this power supply this is near the max of used parts, it can get you into some nice firework, so don't go over 2.5 amps.....Than another nice mod. take out the parts that make the -5 volt that fed the tl081's, than use a 7805 and a ltc660 (or similar) and fed the 081's with the -power with the mod. Now you can also use a dc powersupply for fed this pcb....And make sure you cool the 2sd1047, I use an old 478 + fan intel cpu cooler.... It's a fun project to build, has some flaws but can easily be fixed...

      Evidently it is to set the output voltage to 0v when the output potentiometer (10K Pot marked 'V' on the board) is in it's minimum position. Have you not downloaded the PDF instructions for building this PSU?? I haven't built mine yet, but the PDF tells you all the info about it including the above setup method.

      OP07CP might do the job, It has a supply voltage of 44V max. It is pin compatible to TL081 and best of all, its cheap (*****,50)

      The PCB traces from filter capacitor to output are too thin to carry the 3A as advertised. They need to be reinforced with external wiring.

      I have had it happen, yes. The first time one of the op-amps was bad (always use sockets! Also, i recommend UA741's instead). The second time i blew the big white shunt resistor (It pays to keep spares). If you aren't using a heat sink and fan, i highly recommend that you do. I have about ten of these little kits and love building and using them! Hope this helps.

      Q: hi I recently got one of these power supply kits and assembled it. It will only output a max 24volt. The input voltage is as required. Can this be increased as there is no instructions or diagram?, also the led lights up even with no load but glows much brighter when set current is exceeded. is this normal operation or have I a problem? as it does work ok otherwise.

      Low output voltage has 2 main reasons. 1) Transformer not powerful enough. To sustain 30VDC at 3ADC, the transformer must output at least 30x3=90W. This is a rather stringent requirement that not all transformers can meet. 2) PCB traces from filter capacitor to power transistor to output are too thin to carry that 90W. This is a design flaw that can be overcome by reinforcing them with external wiring. Current-limiting LED always on probably because corresponding potentiometer not at fully-clockwise position to disable current-limiting function.
